Flushed in Flushing

My hearing is terrible. Ask anyone. Combine Laguardia’s air-traffic with buses, cabs and car-horns on Roosevelt Avenue over the Grand Central Parkway and forget about it – I won’t understand a single word.

Just moments ago, I was approached by a smiling Asian woman who asked for directions in a clear and obvious “American” accent. What she said is not what my brain processed.

So…over the roar of another LGA lift-off, I repeated what I heard:

“Is this the way to the Korean Museum?”

…to which she cocked her head, waited a few beats, then repeated her original query:

“Uh, no. Is this the way to the Queens Museum.”

Thankfully it was.

She seemed completely uninterested in any further conversation with an obvious racist.
