Match recap from Arthur Ashe Stadium announcer Andy Taylor.

“It’s not the destination, it’s the journey”

…says no one who’s ever played a best-of-five, 4th-Round match at a Major. Exultation is so close – yet still three victories away. Of course, first you have to sneak past your Round of 16 opponent.

Today was a journey. A long, twisting, grinding, frustrating, bizarre, messy, exhausting adventure. Schwartzman’s stat sheet wasn’t clean, but it was cleaner that Zverev’s. Had Sascha been able to land first serves – and keep his mouth shut – the match could’ve leaned the other way.

At the Slams, it’s not the journey – it’s the destination. And like a commuter battling Monday morning traffic, the goal is get to that destination as quickly as possible…and to make sure James Keothavong doesn’t hear you barking obscenities at the ass-hat who just cut you off.
