50th anniversary of US Open | Osaka wins 1st Slam in controversial Final | Djokovic wins 3rd US Open
US Open 50th Anniversary. Osaka captures debut Slam. Djokovic earns 14th
Stadium host Andy Taylor returned to New York in August of 2018 to narrate the action inside Arthur Ashe Stadium. It was his 17th consecutive year as the Voice of the US Open and a year that celebrated the 50th anniversary of the US Open’s first Open Era champions, including Arthur Ashe.
Naomi Osaka won her debut Grand Slam title in a controversial Final, where her tennis idol Serena Williams was punished a point and a game penalty for code violations. The awkward trophy ceremony was drowned by a chorus of boos from disaffected fans who felt chair umpire Carlos Ramos overstepped his authority, affecting the outcome of the championship match.

Novak Djokovic won his third US Open and 14th career Major title, defeating Juan Martin Del Potro – competing in his second Grand Slam Final, and first since winning the 2009 US Open title over Roger Federer.
In doubles, Coco Vandeweghe and Ashleigh Barty won their first Major together, and 2nd title since first joining forces in March. Jack Sock and Mike Bryan are now undefeated together at the Slams. With Bob Bryan recovering from hip surgery, Mike teamed with Jack to win the 2018 titles at both Wimbledon and the US Open. By earning his 18th Doubles Major, Mike became the first man since Holcombe Ward in 1906 to win six US Open Doubles titles, and now holds more Grand Slam doubles titles than any other man in tennis history.
Jamie Murray defended his Mixed Doubles title to become a 4-time Grand Slam Mixed Doubles Champion. Last year, he teamed with Martina Hingis to capture the title. With Martina now retired, this year he teamed with American Bethanie Mattek-Sands, who spent most of 2018 rehabbing from a horrific knee-injury suffered at the 2017 Wimbledon Championships. The emotional victory was Bethanie’s 3rd Grand Slam Mixed Doubles title; her first at the US Open.
