2017 QATAR CLASSIC SQUASH CHAMPIONSHIP

Andy Taylor. Announcer. Squash Player MagazineThe Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex hosted the second World Series event of the young 2017-18 PSA World Tour Season. After eight days of phenomenal play in Doha, World #3 Mohamed ElShorbagy emerged the victor, with a 4-game win over World #7 and fellow Egyptian, Tarek Momen.

It was ElShorbagy’s 3rd Qatar Classic title, and his 6th successive Final in Qatar, surpassing legend Jansher Khan’s record of five consecutive Doha Finals in the mid-90’s. The Beast of Alexandria has reached the Finals of all four events he’s played this season, earning 3-titles, and is well on his way to regaining the World #1 ranking.

Qualifying and the Player Dinner Gala

The 2017 Qatar Classic was my first PSA World Tour experience, and it was extraordinary. The Qatar Tennis Squash and Badminton Federation is top-shelf, as is the entire squash community. There's genuine passion in this sport; a devotion that is highly contagious. The PSA Tour and athletes deliver remarkable eye candy by teaming fast-paced competition with theatrical, gladiator-style presentation. It is a hell of a show, and deserves far greater exposure.
