Top-4 Qualifying seeds advance to the main draw
With the threat of rain, gusty winds and cool conditions – the top-4 seeds in this year’s Qualifying Draw all advanced to the main event.
Over on Court-1, Marton Fucsovics overcame an early deficit to defeat Jiri Vesely in just under 2-hours. Shortly after the win, he learned he’ll face the 8-seed Frances Tiafoe in Round-1 on Tuesday. Last year, Hungary’s top talent gave Novak Djokovic headaches during the Round of 16 .
Court-2 featured Sunday’s thriller. Sweden’s Michael Ymer also withstood a 1st-set loss, storming back to take the second. In the decider, Ymer struggled to serve it out. Down 2-5, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina scored a break, then held to reach 4-5. The Spaniard saved 3 match points from deuce before Michael fianally served his way into the main draw. Tomorrow, Ymer will face Aljaz Bedene in Round-1.
Top French qualifiers Gregoire Barrere and Corentin Moutet both earned straight-sets victories on Courts 5 and 3, respectively. Corentin will face American Tennys Sandgren in tomorrow’s first match on Court-1, while Gregoire gets fellow Frenchman and 2017 Doha Doubles Champion Jeremy Chardy in the third match on Center Court.
