Welcome to Worcester…and today’s first-round World Group II Fed Cup Tie between Team USA and Team Belarus. What an opportunity for New England to see some of the best tennis players in the world, right here in their own backyard.
World #1 and Australian Open Champion Victoria Azarenka is here, along with Serena and Venus Williams, legendary doubles player Liezel Huber, and an exciting young American Christina McHale.
In the first match today, McHale will play Vika; and in the second match, Serena Williams is scheduled to play Olga Govortsova.
Tomorrow, they’ll switch opponents and then cap-off the Tie with a doubles match featuring Liezel and Venus vs. Victoria Azarenka and Olga Govortsova.
Opening Ceremonies start at 12:40p EST here at the DCU Center, and between matches – the most talented 10 and under tennis players from the USTA New England Chapter will take the court for a 10-and-under 60-foot court demonstration. It should be fun!
If you have tickets – we look forward to seeing you here today and tomorrow; and look forward to a Patriots win in the Big Game tomorrow night. From what I hear, single day tickets are still available – so grab some before they sell out!
Christina McHale just finished her warm-up – looking forward to some great tennis today!
