In his first meeting with 23-year-old Frenchman Auguste Dussourd, 2016 World Champion Karim Abdel Gawad showed fans he isn’t always a “slow starter.” Determined to get through the early rounds quickly, the World #4 was locked-in from first-serve and earned the win in under 30-minutes.

In 2016, he captured his fist Major title at the PSA World Championship in Cairo – defeating Nick Matthew, Mohamed Elshorbagy and Ramy Ashour to lift the trophy. That season, he went on to capture his first two Platinum titles, went undefeated for 3-months, and claimed the World #1 ranking. And just last week – in an all-Egyptian Final in front of the Pyramids of Giza – he captured his 4th Platinum title, defeating the sport’s top-player Ali Farag in the championship match. 9-years-ago, he made his Doha debut as an 18-year-old Qualifier at the 2010 Qatar Classic. Today, he returns to Doha’s glass court as the reigning PSA World Tour Finals champion, with 22 career PSA titles in all. This 23-year-old returns to Doha on an absolute tear. He started the new season in Canada, winning back-to-back titles at the NASH Cup and Aspin Cup – where he earned an automatic berth into this year’s World Championship. With those two titles, he climbed to a career-high ranking of World #62 – and comes into today’s Round-1 match with a season record of 9-1 in just 3-events. He now owns 8 PSA titles overall, is a 15-time Finalist on Tour – and today, competes in his second PSA World Championship, where 2-years-ago he won a pair of qualifying matches to reach the main-draw in his World Championship debut.
