Needless to say, fans who purchased advance ticket’s for Friday’s Night Session received a tremendously special treat. Two of the most prolific sisters in sport, battling for the sixth time on center court at their home Slam.
Though Serena dominated the match, it was still a very special evening.

US Open Fans – tonight, we celebrate the 30th career meeting between these two champions.
This is the 16th time they’ve shared the court at a Grand Slam. And since 1998, they’ve faced each other in a remarkable 9 Grand Slam Finals.
In 2002 and 2003, they were unbeatable – meeting in four consecutive Slam Finals between 2002’s French Open and 2003’s Australian Open. Tonight is their 6th career meeting here in Arthur Ashe Stadium.
In 2001 – in their first Grand Slam Final together – Venus captured her 2nd US Open title. A year later, Serena emerged the victor, winning her second US Open title.
As a team, they own 2 US Open Doubles titles, 14 Grand Slam Doubles titles, 3 Olympic Gold Medals, and are Fed Cup Champions…

In 1999, at just 17-years-old, she won her first Grand Slam Singles title right here in Arthur Ashe Stadium, defeating World #1 Martina Hingis in straight-sets. 19-years later, she owns the career Grand Slam with a record-shattering 23 Grand Slam Singles titles overall – the most of any player in the Open Era. Include her doubles success with sister Venus – plus two Mixed Doubles titles – and she is a 39-time Grand Slam Champion. The sport’s top-ranked player for an astounding 319-weeks – she owns 72 WTA Single titles, 4 Olympic Gold Medals, is a Fed Cup Champion; and last September – became a Mom for the first time. In 1997, as an unseeded 17-year-old, she went on to reach her first Grand Slam Final here in the newly dedicated Arthur Ashe Stadium. 21 years later, she owns 73 Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles titles – including seven Grand Slam Singles titles; and with sister Serena, 14 Grand Slam Doubles titles. She is a 4-time Olympic Gold Medalist, a Fed Cup Champion, and in 2002 became the first African American woman to ascend to World #1 in the Open Era.
