Mardy Fish and John Isner played ‘out of their minds’ today – Day-1 of the U.S. vs. Switzerland Davis Cup Tie on CLAY, IN Fribourg.
Mardy Fish won the first 4-hour and 26-minute match over Stan Wawrinka (6-2, 4-6, 4-6, 6-1, 9-7). That was unreal…then John Isner DOMINATED Roger Federer’s serve, after dropping the first set – beating Roger in just 2-hours and 40-minutes (4-6, 6-3, 7-6, 6-2).
What an amazing way to open the weekend for Jim Courier’s Team, and tomorrow will be a huge test as Mike Bryan teams-up with Ryan Harrison, instead of his brother Bob, to try and take down Roger and Stan.
Switzerland’s back is against the wall – tomorrow’s match should be a thriller. The winner of this Tie will take on the winner of the France vs. Canada Tie, happening out west this weekend in Vancouver. The quarterfinals will be held April 6th-8th.
Big day for American Tennis in Switzerland, but certainly not time to start ‘counting chickens’ -after all, this is Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka we’re talking about here. Congrats to Mardy and John on a great day…now, let’s get the job done.
