Borja Golan -28- (ESP)
At 35-years-old, this 16-time Spanish Nationals Champion has been ranked as high as #5 in the world. And in 2014, qualified for the PSA World Tour Finals for the first time. He always plays his best squash here in Doha. In 2013, he reached his first career Platinum-level Semifinal on this court, earning his first career-victory over Gregory Gaultier. His two best results at the PSA World Championship came on this court, where he reached the Quarterfinals in both 2012 and 2014. Ranked as high as World #5, he owns 32 career PSA titles, has reached 43 Finals, and started the new season by capturing his second title at the European Individual Championship. Competing in his 8th Qatar Classic Squash Championship; yesterday, he too played a 5-game thriller, defeating England’s Nathan Lake in just under an hour. Greg Lobban -34- (SCO)
At 26-years-old, this 2013 Scottish Nationals Champion owns 9 PSA titles, has reached 20 championship matches, and last season climbed to a career-high ranking of World #30. Two season’s back, he went on a remarkable run after an inspiring return to the game. In October, he reached the Final of the 2016 Chicago Open, but was injured in the championship match. After six months away, he returned to the sport with a fierce determination to pick up right where he left off. And that he did – reaching five consecutive Finals, earning three titles, and jumping over 20-spots in the PSA rankings by season’s end. Competing in his 2nd Qatar Classic Squash Championship; yesterday – down 2-games to 1 – he came back to defeat Malaysia’s Nafiizwan Adnan in an 82-minute 5-game marathon.
