First up – the 3rd annual Justice Jewelers Diamond Dash is tomorrow. Couples from across the Ozarks will compete in a text-based scavenger hunt across the city of Springfield. One lucky couple will win a $10,000 diamond ring from Justice Jewelers at the end of the day.
I’ll be there to help host the event with Jay Fotsch of Power 96.5 – as we support Camp Barnabas in Purdy. Make a generous contribution to Camp Barnabas and receive a $50 gift card to Justice Jewelers!
In sports, bummer for the Cardinals, losing Game-2 of the World Series in the top-of the-9th to the Texas Rangers last night. There is a wager…between me and Dionne’s cousin in Dallas. If the wild-card Cardinals win, I’m told that I’ll receive a 6-pack of Rahr’s Beer (Fort Worth). Should, by some act of God, the Rangers win the World Series, Kelly will be receiving a 6-pack of Mother’s IPA (Springfield, MO). GO CARDINALS!
In Hoops – no deal between NBA Owners and Players – and the talks are done for now.
From the NFL…a terrible story out of Detroit as Jerome Harrison has been diagnosed with a brain tumor.
In tennis…it’s great to hear that Alisa Kleybanova has received her final chemo treatment. She’s dealing with a form of lymphoma. Here’s the tweet from Cari Champion: “Wishing her a well. Here’s an update. Alisa Kleybanova finished chemotherapy and is now receiving radiation therapy. She’s in good spirits”
Sadly, many current and former top players lost their agent this week, Ken Meyerson passed away in his home from an apparent heart attack. He was just 48-years-old.
In Stockholm – Jarko Niemenen is into the semi’s. In Moscow – Davydenko, Chardy and Troiki move-on, while Zvonareva and Kuznetsova both got beat on Friday. In Luxembourg – Azarenka, Goerges, Nicolescu and Koethevong all advanced today.
At the Pan-Am Games, some familiar names have done well this week, too – Here’s a tweet from Colette Lewis: “Christina McHale wins bronze medal at #PanAmgames – Former ITA Player of Year Robert Farrah (COL) of USC reaches gold medal match.”
That’s all I have ’til Monday – have a great weekend!
