It’s been four months since Novak Djokovic has won a title; a little over a month since he lost the #1-ranking; and he’s just one week removed from losing the Bronze Medal match to Juan Martin del Potro at the Olympic Games in London…
Now, he’s ready to win again – even through frustrating rain delays – on the hard-courts of the U.S. Open. This week, he’ll play in Cincinnati after easily defeating Richard Gasquet 6-3, 6-2 in Toronto’s Rogers Cup Final. Djokovic is now in 2nd-place, just 10-points behind Sam Querrey in the Emirates Airline US Open Series Bonus Challenge.
Olympic Gold Medalists Bob and Mike Bryan won the doubles title 6-1, 4-6, (12-10) over Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez.
And in a soggy Montreal, Petra Kvitova and Na Li are playing for the Rogers Cup Title tonight…both trail Dominika Cibulkova by just 15-points in the Emirates Airline US Open Series Bonus Challenge.
Maria Sharapova missed the Rogers Cup and will miss Cincinnati as well, thanks to a stomach virus.
Some early results from Cincinnati…Nashville’s Brian Baker took-out the 15th-seeded Phillipp Kohlschreiber in two tie-break sets; and Springfield Laser Timea Babos of Hungary beat American Olympian Varvara Lepchenko in the first round.
