Match recap from Squash Announcer Andy Taylor, Voice of the 2019 PSA Mens World Championship.

Over the past three seasons, Tarek Momen and Simon Rösner have made a habit of crossing paths at pivotal career intersections. It all started on this court two-years-ago, when the two met in the Semifinals of the 2017 Qatar Classic. Neither had ever reached a Platinum Final.

Although Momen earned victory in 3-games — Rösner’s first Major Semifinal sparked new-found confidence. Two months later, in the Tournament of Champions Final, Simon defeated Tarek in New York’s Grand Central Terminal, capturing his first Platinum title. It was the beginning of a career-best run that saw the German climb to career-high ranking of World #3. Within a year, he appeared in two more Platinum Finals and reached the Semifinals of the World Championship for the first time.

Meanwhile, Momen went-on to crack the top-5, and earned a spot in the year-end PSA World Tour Final for the first time in 4-years. Then — last season the Egyptian was relentless. He broke into the top-3 with Final-4 appearances in every single Platinum except the US Open, where he reached the Quarters. In Chicago, he reached his first World Championship Final — and was crestfallen in defeat, no longer content with simply achieving new career milestones. Momen vowed to do whatever it took to put himself back in position to become World Champion – and tonight, he delivered on that personal promise in another momentous clash with Rösner.

Tomorrow night, Tarek Momen will battle for the World Championship title for a second time.

Only one result is satisfactory. He MUST win the title.

Since last April, Tarek Momen has a perfect record versus the German Tree Chopper
