Rio 2016: Day-5. It rained. All day

On Day-5, we spent all day at Maria Bueno Stadium in Rio — watching it rain. The day session was finally cancelled around 5:30p, while the night session was called shortly before 7:30p. This creates a sizable scheduling challenge for the tournament referee, with many of the athletes still alive in two events.

Then there’s Rafal Nadal — He will play three matches on Thursday. Which is insane.

He’s up first on Center Court, facing Gilles Simon in 3rd-Round play. Then he and Marc Lopez will hit Court-3 to take on Daniel Nestor and Vasek Pospisil in the Doubles Semifinals. Once that’s complete, he’s scheduled to join Garbine Muguruza for their 1st-Round Mixed Doubles match vs. Lucie Hradecka and Radek Stepanek — on a court still to be determined.
