Venus Williams def Oceane Dodin 75 64
Venus Williams has a date with Round-3 at the US Open. With her runs at the Australian Open and Wimbledon, she is a 2-time Slam Finalist this year alone. Should she reach the US Open Final on the 9th, it will be her 3rd Major Final of the year, 5th US Open Final, and 17th career Grand Slam Final. Legend.
Oceane Dodin has had a big year. She reached the Semifinals in Washington D.C., cracked the top-50, and scored her first win over a top-5 player, defeating Dominika Cibulkova in Madrid. The 2017 US Open won’t be amoung her statistical highlights, but the experience of playing one of the sports all-time greats in Arthur Ashe Stadium will surely become a top-shelf memory when she dusts off the photo album thirty years from now.
While Venus dominated in straight-sets, Dodin did deliver during two key moments:
- Down a break, Venus serving for the first set, Oceane scored a clutch break to keep the set alive. However, 3-games later, Venus broke to go up 1-0.
- Down a break, Venus serving for the match, Oceane broke again to keep the match alive. However, Venus responded with a break of her own to earn the win.
Next up for the 2-time US Open Champion: 22-year-old Maria Sakkari of Greece. Maria’s been on the climb this year, reaching the 3rd-Round for the first time at both the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
