Kim Clijsters wins back-to-back US Opens. Rafael Nadal captures his first title in New York

Kim Clijsters unbeatable again in Queens, while Rafa wins Slam #9

Appearing in his first US Open Final, Rafael Nadal earned the career Grand Slam by defeating two-time Finalist Novak Djokovic in the 2010 US Open Championship match. The win was Rafa’s 9th career Grand Slam title and third of the year (French Open, Wimbledon).

Kim Clijsters defended her title, winning her third US Open in four Finals, defeating Vera Zvonareva in the Championship match.

Bob and Mike Bryan won their third US Open title, appearing in their fourth Final (W-2008, W-2005, F-2003). Like Nadal, the win was their 9th career Grand Slam title.

Bob teamed with Liezel Huber to win his 4th US Open Mixed Doubles Championship in five Finals (his 7th career Grand Slam Mixed Doubles title). It was Liezel’s first US Open Mixed Doubles title; she appeared in the Final two years prior with Jamie Murray.

Liezel was also in the Women’s Doubles Final for the third consecutive year. She and partner Nadia Petrova fell to American Vania King and Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan.
