On another crazy night of threatening weather at Mediacom Tennis Stadium, the Springfield Lasers and the Texas Wild – both (4-2) on the season – battled in their only regular season meeting. Down 15-17 going into the final event, Alisa Kleybanova and Vania King teamed up to defeat Eugenie Bouchard and Darija Jurak (5-1), lifting the Lasers to victory (20-18). During halftime, Andy Taylor and Don West discussed the match while enjoying an impressive lightening show behind the camera.

Feeling new-found confidence, the Philadelphia Freedoms arrived at Mediacom Tennis Stadium to take on the Springfield Lasers with a two-match win-streak…wins that benefited the Springfield Lasers in the race for the Western Conference Championship. The Freedoms would go on to win their third consecutive match in a close battle, defeating the Lasers (21-20), after tennis was moved indoors due to severe weather. In the 2013 World Team Tennis Western Conference Championship, the Springfield Lasers were unstoppable. After Alisa Kleybanova’s 5-1 rout of Eugenie Bouchard, Coach John-Laffnie de Jager talked to Andy Taylor about his team’s clutch performance under pressure, and how he’d motivate Rojer, King, Kleynbanova and DeVoest to play in the World Team Tennis Final against the league leading Washington Kastles.

With only four regular season matches left to play in the 2013 World Team Tennis Season, the Springfield Lasers hosted the Philadelphia Freedoms on a stormy Saturday Night at Mediacom Tennis Stadium. Up (9-7) going into the third event, nearby lightening stopped play on the court. While officials determined whether to move the match indoors, Andy Taylor and Don West were forced to “dance in the wind” and kill some time during the live coverage.

Without dropping a single event, the Springfield Lasers convincingly won the 2013 World Team Tennis Western Conference Championship on their home court over the Texas Wild (25-9). Before the match, Jean-Julien Rojer was announced as the league’s Male MVP and Alisa Kleybanova was honored as the league’s Female Rookie of the Year. In his 2013 debut for the Springfield Lasers, Andy Roddick teamed with Jean-Julien Rojer to defeat Eric Butorac and Amir Weintraub of the Boston Lobsters (5-2). The Lasers would go on to win the season opener at Mediacom Tennis Stadium (22-14). In September of 2012, Roddick retired from the ATP World Tour after a 4-set loss to Juan Martin del Potro in the US Open’s Fourth Round; having won his first competitive match in over 10-months, Roddick spoke with Andy Taylor about his love of the game and World Team Tennis.
