Maria Sharapova earns her 2nd Slam title. Federer wins 3rd consecutive US Open
Sharapova and Federer both overcome former US Open Champions
At the 2006 US Open, Maria Sharapova won her second career Grand Slam Singles title with a determined win over 2003 Champion Justine Henin. Meanwhile, Roger Federer continued his dominance, winning his third consecutive US Open and 9th career Grand Slam Singles title.
In doubles, Nathalie Dechy teamed with last year’s Mixed Doubles Champion Vera Zvonareva to defeat Dinara Safina and last year’s Mixed Doubles Finalist Katarina Srebotnik. On the men’s side, Leander Paes paired with Martin Damm of the Czech Republic to take-down Jonas Bjorkman (2003 Doubles Champion) and Max Mirnyi (2000 and 2002 Doubles Champion).
And in Mixed Doubles, Martina Navratilova finished her career by earning her 85th Grand Slam title with partner Bob Bryan, defeating Kveta Peschke and Martin Damm.

Bob earned his third US Open Mixed Doubles title, appearing in his fourth Final in five years.
