Stadium Announcer Andy Taylor. US Open 2002

Serena Williams and Pete Sampras capture the Singles Titles.

All-American Finals highlight the 2002 US Open

The 2002 US Open was absolutely thrilling for the U.S. tennis fan, featuring all-American Finals in both Singles competitions. In their 34th and final career meeting, Pete Sampras defeated Andre Agassi to win his 5th US Open title – at the time, an Open Era record he shared with Jimmy Conners. It was Pete’s 14th and last Grand Slam title.

Serena and Venus Williams met in the Women’s Championship match, where Serena won her third consecutive Grand Slam title of the year, after winning both Roland Garros and Wimbledon. It was Serena’s 4th career Grand Slam title and 2nd US Open win (1999).

24-year-old twins Bob and Mike Bryan faced each other in the Mixed Doubles Final where the right-handed Mike and partner Lisa Raymond defeated lefty Bob and Katarina Srebotnik in two tie-break sets.

The dynamic pairing of Virginia Ruano Pascual and Paola Soarez won the Women’s Doubles title, while Indian legend Mahesh Bhupathi and Max Mirnyi teamed to win the Men’s Doubles Championship.
