The Finalist at last season’s PSA World Championship – in Chicago, he took-out the defending champion Mohamed Elshorbagy in 5-games to reach the title match. He was also a Semifinalist at the World Championship in 2015, where he defeated 3-time World Champ Nick Matthew to reach the Final-4. Over the past 2-seasons, he’s reached 2 Platinum Finals – including his first right here at the 2017 Qatar Classic – and over the past 12-months, has reached the Semifinals in 6 of the last 7 Platinum events. He started the new season by reaching his 24th career Final at the NetSuite Open, and returns to Doha with a career-high ranking of World #3. Mazen Hesham -19- (EGY)
7-years-ago, as an 18-year-old qualifier, he made his World Championship debut right here in Doha. And last March, he earned his first two World Championship victories to reach the Round of 16. Known as the Black Falcon, he’s earned some of his biggest victories on this court. In 2012, he helped lead Egypt to the World Junior Team Championship – And just 3-years-later, reached his first Major Semifinal at the Qatar Classic, defeating Omar Mossad and Ali Farag en-route to the Final-4. Now 6-3 to start the new season, he comes into this year’s World Championship after a Quarterfinal run at the China Open, and back-to-back Platinum Final-16 appearances at the US and Egyptian Opens.
