Weekend Update in Sports, and from the Lake…

TENNIS: Another Far East win for Andy Murray over David Ferrer in Shanghai on Sunday. That’s 25 wins in 26 matches, vaulting Andy to 3rd overall in the ATP World Tour Rankings, dropping Roger Federer to 4th overall.

Andy, by the way – does have a YouTube Channel…

Petra Kvitova won Linz…but to me, the most remarkable story on the ladies side was Marion Bartoli’s win in Osaka, where she played both her semi-final and final match on the same day, and won the tournament…

This week, the guys are in Stockholm and Moscow; the ladies are also in Moscow and Luxembourg…

One positive note from Las Vegas over the weekend – Andre Agassi defeated Pete Sampras Saturday Night to win the latest champions event…

Interesting Tweet from Bob Bryan this morning: “Drug testing just called. They’re at my front door…in Miami. 2500 miles away. Have 1 hour to get there. Anyone have a rocket ship?” Funny.

FISHING – Here in Southwest Missouri, my wife Dionne and I decided we’d head to Table Rock Lake with the boat Friday morning, put-in at Cape Fair Marina, and spend the morning slaying bass…(which never happens).

I learned a couple of valuable lessons on Friday…First off – while charging the battery for the trolling motor is a significant maneuver before nearly every fishing adventure, one should also check the boat’s “cranking” battery every now and then. Otherwise, one chilly fall morning, one could back the truck – splash that boat into the lake – and not have enough battery to even get the boat started…as the boat drifts further and further away from the trailer.

Awesome.

Thankfully, we weren’t far from Cape Fair Marina – so we used the trolling motor to pull into one of their bays. They were kind enough to allow us the use of a trickle charger for several hours to charge our cranking battery – just so we could get the motor started to get the boat back up on the trailer.

Great fishing trip, Andy! My wife was impressed…especially when we then nearly ran out of gas just getting back to the trailer.

That’s the short version, and I think we’ll just leave it at that.
