Springfield Lasers win in Philly

Coach JL de Jager and the Springfield Lasers improved to (2-1) on the 2013 World Team Tennis season with a 23-20 overtime win last night in Philadelphia. Freedoms Coach Josh Cohen chose the order of events, and with Andy Roddick playing for the Lasers, elected to start with Mens Singles and end the match with Mens Doubles.

Roddick won the first set with a break on Sam Groth. Vania King and Alisa Kleybanova gelled to do the same over American Alison Riske and veteran Grand Slam champion Liezel Huber. In Mixed, Jean-Julien Rojer and Kleybanova won in a tiebreak over Huber and Jordan Kerr. Vania King then suffered her first lost-set of the season, broken once by Riske. With the Lasers up 18-15 going into the final event, Groth and Kerr forced overtime, winning the set in a tiebreak; but then lost the next game, giving the Lasers win #2 on the season.
