Day-One – Session-1 – 2011 U.S. Open

Forget earthquakes and hurricanes – the 2011 U.S. Open started on schedule – Monday, August 29th – here at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center…

From the American perspective – a huge start for 16-year-old Madison Keys, overcoming Jill Craybas today. Here on Arthur Ashe Stadium, top-ranked American Mardy Fish had no trouble dispatching up-and-coming German Tobias Kamke.

The second day-session match continues as I write – Maria Sharapova had a rough start against Great Britain’s Heather Watson, dropping the first set (3-6); but the 2006 U.S. Open Champ is on track to leave center court with another win – currently up (4-3).

Tonight – don’t miss the scaled back Opening Ceremonies featuring an address from Mayor Bloomberg and a tribute to New York from 14-year-old Greyson Chance.

Most importantly…TENNIS: Venus Williams plays Serbian Vesna Dolonc in the first match, followed by Roger Federer versus Columbia’s Santiago Giraldo…

I look forward to seeing you here at the 2011 U.S. Open!
