2012 Australian Open: How about that Vika?!

Victoria Azarenka won the 2012 Australian Open Title over Maria Sharapova. In fact, Vika (WHOO-POOO!) dominated Maria (AHHHH!) 6-3, 6-0! Not only did Vika pick up a huge wad of cash with her first Grand Slam Title, she leapt from World #3 to World #1 overnight, replacing Caroline Wozniacki.

Victoria – you just won your first Grand Slam, and became the top player in the world…what are you going to do now?

“I’M GOING TO WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS!”

Next weekend, the current Australian Open Champion will represent Belarus in Worcester – taking on both Serena and Venus Williams, Christina McHale, Liezel Huber and Team USA. This is a HUGE opportunity for tennis fans in the Northeast to see top-talent, right in their own backyard!

No road trip to Queens for the U.S. Open! The #1 Women’s Player in the World AND the Williams Sisters are coming to Worcester…on a Super Bowl weekend featuring the New England Patriots!

Wicked awesome.

By the way, the Bryans were denied their 12th Grand Slam Title, 6th Down under – by Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek 7-6 (1), 6-2. Bob’s on his way home to be by his ‘beyond-pregnant’ wife’s side…while Leander Paes goes for another Grand Slam title on Sunday (He’s in the Mixed Final with partner Elena Vesnina vs. Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Haria Tecau).

The Bryans are still tied with the Woodies (Mark and Todd) at 11 career Grand Slam Titles.

So who wins the ’12 Title on the Men’s Side? 3:30a CST – Rafael Nadal tries to take down Novak Djokovic, something he couldn’t accomlish during the sport’s last Grand Slam final…on Arthur Ashe Stadium’s hard-court back in September. The rematch is on – and I’m looking forward to it!
